Types of scaffolding and factors to consider while choosing one

Scaffolding is an interim structure that is used to lend support to the construction crew so that they can access the area of the building which would have been difficult to reach otherwise. The temporary structure is also used to transfer construction materials and support the original structure. It is of primary importance to modern-day construction sites with high-rise structures emerging as the new fad.
There is no single scaffolding which suits the needs of every construction site. Each site has its requirements based on the layout of the structure, budget, and purpose that the scaffolding will serve. The types of scaffolding available in the market can be broadly classified into the following types.

Types of Scaffolding

Scaffolding with supported platforms
This is the most commonly used variety of scaffolding. It consists of a high platform made of wood, steel or aluminum supported by beams or poles made of metal or bamboo. The base of the poles is supported by the ground. This type of scaffolding can be used in sites where the ground is even.

Scaffoldings suspended from an anchor
This variety of scaffoldings do not need a base to it. They are suspended from the side or top of the structure through ropes which are anchored to some reliable support. The suspended scaffoldings come in handy in places where the ground is uneven.

Scaffoldings which are adjustable
These are slight modifications to the suspended scaffoldings. Adjustable scaffoldings are almost similar to suspended scaffolding, but they can be raised or lowered via a system of pulleys. This flexibility in height makes these scaffoldings popular among modern construction workers.

Choosing the right scaffolding is of primary importance to the smooth construction of any structure. The choice of scaffolding needs to be made after considering multiple critical factors. Let us take a brief look at some of these factors.

Factors to consider while choosing the right scaffold for your purpose

Safety
The safety of the construction workers should be of utmost importance. One should always check that the scaffolding, which is to be used, fulfills all the national and local safety requirements. The platform should also have basic safety features like guard rails, handrails, and anti-slip floors. While purchasing a scaffolding, one should also check the permit and licenses of the vending company.

The requirements of the construction project
The type, dimension, and layout of the construction project is a major influential factor while choosing the kind of scaffolding to be used. Various types and stages of construction require different types of scaffoldings. For example, adjustable scaffolding, which requires a crane for installation, is not ideal for a construction site that has limited space while suspended scaffoldings are an excellent choice for high-rise projects.

Terrain of the construction site
The ground conditions of the construction site have a significant role to play in determining the right kind of scaffolding. If the ground is even, the supported platform scaffolding is preferred to suspended ones which are used in case of uneven terrain.

Budget
Like any other purchase, the choice of scaffolding is also influenced by its pricing. While you want to ensure that the product has high functionality, you do not want to burn a neat hole through your pocket. The best choice is the one which is economical and suits your requirements.

The slightest of errors in choosing the right kind of scaffolding can have disastrous consequences and can even prove to be fatal. So, choosing the right type of scaffolding is as crucial as selecting the raw materials for construction and has to be done after considering all essential factors.

It permits the removal of various parts as per requirements without any damage to concrete. The advantage of scaffolding is the position that it puts a worker in, it puts him at a Height and a certain reach. ...
